Malaysia’s power utility partners with Keppel to supply 100 MW in cross-border deal

Malaysia’s state-owned power utility has entered into a key cross-border agreement with Keppel Renewable Energy to supply up to 100 MW of electricity. This comes after Singapore’s Energy Market Authority (EMA) extended Keppel’s licence to import electricity until 2026.

This initiative is part of the Lao PDR–Thailand Malaysia–Singapore Power Integration Project (LTMS-PIP), launched in June 2022 as the first multilateral cross-border renewable energy trading among four ASEAN nations. An initial two-year agreement between Keppel and Laos’ state-owned Electricite du Laos (EDL) allowed for the import of up to 100 MW of renewable hydropower via Thailand and Malaysia using existing infrastructure. In Phase II of LTMS-PIP, the volume of traded electricity is set to double.
