The Madhya Pradesh government is in the process of finalising agreements for setting up 4,000 MW of new thermal power capacity in Anuppur district. The projects involve an estimated investment of around Rs 60,000 crore, with power generation expected to begin from 2030.

The agreements follow the state government’s approval to procure 4,000 MW of electricity from new thermal power projects. Madhya Pradesh Power Management Company Limited (MPPMCL) conducted a competitive bidding process on a Design, Build, Finance, Own, and Operate (DBFOO) basis to select developers, according to Additional Chief Secretary Neeraj Mandloi.

Under the bidding outcome, developers have been selected for a contracted capacity of 3,200 MW. An additional 800 MW has been kept under a greenshoe option, which allows the power procurer to enhance the awarded capacity on the same contractual terms.

Hindustan Thermal Projects Limited has been awarded 800 MW, Torrent Power Limited has secured 1,600 MW, and Adani Power Limited has been awarded 800 MW along with the 800 MW greenshoe option.

State Energy Minister Pradyumn Singh Tomar said the projects are expected to attract direct investment of about Rs 60,000 crore. He added that the development is likely to generate around 3,000 direct jobs and 5,000 indirect employment opportunities in Madhya Pradesh.

All the projects are planned to be located in Anuppur district, with generation scheduled to commence from 2030.
