L&T wins power transmission and distribution contracts in Middle East
The Power Transmission & Distribution (PT&D) division of Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has secured significant orders in the Middle East to expand and strengthen electricity grids at high voltage levels. While the exact value of these contracts was not disclosed, the aggregate worth is estimated between Rs 100 billion and Rs 150 billion.
In Saudi Arabia, L&T will establish ±500kV HVDC transmission links to interconnect different regions within the national electricity network, improving system resilience and enabling power exchange between regions. The company also secured orders for two 380kV overhead transmission lines and a 380kV gas-insulated switchgear (GIS) substation, which will play a crucial role in connecting renewable energy generation to the grid.
In the United Arab Emirates, L&T will build two major 400kV GIS substations in Abu Dhabi. The project includes civil works and the installation of series current limiting reactors, auto transformers, protection systems, fault monitoring, telecommunications, and integration with the Load Dispatch Centre. These substations aim to increase the power transfer capacity of the UAE’s electricity grid.
