Solar technology developer Lightsource bp has announced a partnership with Germany-based renewables developer Kajoni Energie to develop more than 500MW of utility-scale solar projects in Germany. The collaboration will focus on projects of at least 20MW, with development expected to occur over the next two to three years.
Kajoni will identify suitable project sites of at least 20 hectares and secure the necessary licenses to achieve ready-to-build status. Once construction begins, Lightsource bp will take full ownership of the projects.
Stephan Jeznita, head of business development for Lightsource bp in Germany, emphasized the potential of the Lower Saxony region for solar power and highlighted the importance of local partnerships like Kajoni in expanding the company’s footprint in the German market.
This partnership aligns with Germany’s ambitious goal to meet 80% of its electricity demand from solar and other renewable sources by 2030. Despite these goals, fossil fuels still accounted for 48.82% of Germany’s electricity generation last year, with solar contributing 13.72%.
Lightsource bp has been rapidly expanding its operations across Europe, including the recent commencement of a 40 MW solar project in Poland. The company entered the German energy market in 2023 with a commitment to becoming a leading solar developer in the country and advancing renewable energy growth in the region.
