KEC International Limited has secured a contract worth Rs 4,076.21 million for a composite substation and transmission line package (Package C6) in West Bengal. The contract was awarded by West Bengal State Electricity Transmission Company Limited (WBSETCL), which had invited bids in October 2023.
The package includes three major projects:
Project 1: Construction of a 220/132 kV gas-insulated substation (GIS) at the existing Mahachanda 132 kV site. It includes four 220 kV line bays, 2×160 MVA transformers, and a 220 kV double-circuit line-in line-out (LILO) of the existing BKTP–Satgachia line. The line will include 1.203 km of double-circuit overhead (OH), 4.779 km of multi-circuit OH, and 0.3 km of multi-circuit underground (UG) cable.
Project 2: Establishment of a 132/33/11 kV GIS at Beledurganagar. The facility will house four 132 kV line bays, two 50 MVA transformers, twelve 33 kV line bays, capacitor banks of 10 MVAR and 20 MVAR, two 6.3 MVA transformers at 33/11 kV, and eight 11 kV line bays. The project also includes two 33/.415 kV station service transformers, two 33 kV earthing transformers, and two GIS line bays at the Sonakhali 132 kV substation. A 33.54 km 132 kV double-circuit overhead transmission line will connect the new substation to Sonakhali.
Project 3: Development of a 132/33/11 kV GIS at Abdalpur, including two 132 kV line bays, two 50 MVA transformers at 132/33 kV, sixteen 33 kV line bays, four 10 MVA transformers at 33/11 kV, sixteen 11 kV line bays, two 33/.415 kV station service transformers, and two 33 kV earthing transformers. The project also involves building two 132 kV air-insulated (AIS) line bays at the Barasat 220 kV substation, along with a 6.95 km 132 kV double-circuit underground cable line to Abdalpur.
