Karnataka simplifies transfer of Gruha Jyoti scheme benefits to new homes

The Energy Department in Karnataka has announced that residents can now delink their old Revenue Register (RR) number and link a new one to continue enjoying the benefits of the Gruha Jyoti scheme, which offers free electricity up to 200 units for domestic users. This update, marking the scheme’s first anniversary, ensures uninterrupted support for beneficiaries, even when they move to a new home.

The Gruha Jyoti scheme is one of the five key promises made by the ruling Congress in Karnataka. Residents can easily update their RR numbers through the Seva Sindhu Gruha Jyoti Delink portal to maintain their eligibility for the scheme.

Energy Minister K J George stated that 15.6 million households in Karnataka are currently benefiting from the scheme. Between August 2023 and June 2024, the Energy Department received a subsidy of Rs 82.39 billion from the state government to support the scheme.
