Karnataka’s Rural Development and Panchayat Raj (RDPR) Department and the Energy Department are planning on a 3,000 MW decentralised solar project to reduce the burden of Rs 220 million in annual electricity bills.

The project will cover 29 of Karnataka’s 31 districts, with installations planned in neighbouring districts for rain-fed regions like Kodagu and Chikmagalur. The first phase targets 120-125 MW, with power to be used in government offices, schools, hospitals, streetlights, roads, and public utilities. A proposal has been submitted to the state government for approval.

Meanwhile, Madhya Pradesh is set to develop an 800 MW solar park that will alternate power supply between the state and Uttar Pradesh every six months. The project, consisting of four 200 MW units, will be jointly procured by MP Power Management Company and UP Power Corporation Limited. This setup aligns with seasonal energy demand—Madhya Pradesh faces lower demand in the first two quarters of the financial year, while Uttar Pradesh experiences higher demand during that period, and vice versa.

Officials shared project details with investors during a pre-bid meeting in Bhopal, confirming that final bid documents will be released on May 9, the reverse auction will take place on June 23, and PPAs (Power Purchase Agreements) will be signed on July 14.
