It’s time for Punjab to hand over Shanan power project to Himachal: CM Sukhu
Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu visited the historic 110 MW Shanan Power House in Mandi district, emphasizing the need for its control to be transferred to the Himachal Pradesh government following the expiration of the lease period.
Although the power house is currently operated by the Punjab government, Sukhu mentioned that discussions are ongoing regarding its handover. He noted that the Shanan project, built over a century ago, is not covered under the Punjab Reorganization Act. The Punjab government has appealed the matter in the Supreme Court, and the CM assured that the court’s decision will be respected.
Sukhu also inspected the Uhl Project Phase III in Mandi, announcing an additional Rs 850 million in sovereign guarantees to ensure its completion. The project is scheduled to become operational by January 2025, adding additional income for the state. Tata Power Limited is overseeing the construction quality under Third Party Quality Control.
At the International Kullu Dussehra Festival, CM Sukhu presided over an ambassadors’ meet, inviting global investors to Himachal Pradesh. Ambassadors from Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Brunei, and representatives from Russia and Guyana attended. Sukhu promoted investment in tourism, green energy, data storage, food processing, and other sustainable sectors.
