Invenergy and Honda ink virtual power purchase agreement in Japan

Invenergy has announced a virtual power purchase agreement (VPPA) with Honda Motor Co Ltd. for the Rusutsu wind project in Japan’s Hokkaido region, providing 63 MW of renewable energy. The wind farm is expected to offset 64,000 tonnes of carbon emissions annually, making it the largest corporate VPPA in the area.

This agreement follows Invenergy’s 200 MW power purchase deal with a Honda group company in North America for the Samson Solar Energy Center, which will be among the largest solar facilities in the Western Hemisphere upon completion.

Earlier this month, Invenergy, alongside Monarch Private Capital, completed nearly $170 million in tax equity financing for the Samson Solar Energy Center II in Lamar County, Texas. This project is expected to generate over $27 million in taxes and support local schools and the county throughout its lifespan.
