Infener, Gengenbach to develop 20 MW green hydrogen hub

Infener has joined forces with the City of Gengenbach to plan a 20 MW green hydrogen hub to produce up to 2,000 tonnes of green hydrogen annually. The facility will provide decentralised, climate-neutral, and cost-efficient energy to the Ortenau district, using water electrolysis powered by renewable energy.

Currently, in the conceptual phase, the project’s future depends on successful agreements and securing necessary investments. It has garnered support from local authorities, including the mayor, municipal utilities, and regional economic development agencies.

This initiative aligns with Germany’s National Hydrogen Strategy, which targets a domestic electrolysis capacity of 10 GW by 2030. Infener is also developing hubs in Villingen-Schwenningen and Neumünster, with plans to establish similar projects across Europe.
