A report by Avener Capital highlights that India’s rollout of 250 million smart meters, under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS), represents a $20 billion opportunity, with Advanced Metering Infrastructure Service Providers (AMISP) project awards projected to grow at a compounded annual rate of 25%.
State-wise, Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh are nearing saturation in terms of project awards, but states like Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh, and Gujarat offer promising opportunities due to the gap between sanctioned and awarded projects. The report advises players to identify these gaps and develop robust local implementation strategies.
On the financing front, the study notes that the fixed monthly payment model and direct debit facility (DDF) offer financial security to AMISPs and investors, ensuring better revenue visibility.
