ICMR partners with NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam to promote solar energy in healthcare research

The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam (NVVN) to harness solar power for its institutes across India. This initiative aligns with the Prime Minister’s “Atmanirbhar Bharat” vision and supports India’s renewable energy goals. NVVN will install, test, and maintain rooftop solar panels at 15 ICMR institutes, with a total capacity of 4,559 KW. The project includes a 25-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) offering a fixed solar tariff, ensuring cost efficiency and sustainability.

Seven ICMR institutes are already utilizing solar power from previous projects, and the new MoU will expand solarization efforts, reducing ICMR’s carbon footprint and energy costs, while advancing India’s sustainability in healthcare research.
