Hitachi Energy has invested more than $200 million to expand its transformer manufacturing operations in Brazil, as part of a larger $1.5 billion global investment plan to boost its production capacity.

The investment will be used to upgrade the existing Guarulhos transformer factory in São Paulo and establish a new greenfield transformer manufacturing facility, which is slated to be operational by 2028.

Hitachi Energy has been a key supplier of transformers in Brazil for decades, contributing to major high-voltage projects like the Belo Monte II and Itaipu hydroelectric plants, as well as the 2,375 km Rio Madeira transmission link. The company’s facilities in Guarulhos and Blumenau serve customers across the Americas, Europe, and the Middle East.

In July 2024, Hitachi Energy also announced an €80 million investment to upgrade its transformer manufacturing facilities in Spain.
