Hitachi Energy has successfully tested the world’s first 765kV/400kV, single-phase 250 MVA transformer filled with natural ester oil. This transformer is a major step in ultra-high-voltage AC (alternating current) grid safety and sustainability. The use of natural ester makes the transformer safer and more environmentally friendly than traditional mineral oil-based models.
This transformer was developed under Hitachi Energy’s TrafoStar technology platform, which ensures standardised design and quality across its global manufacturing facilities.
Natural ester oil has self-extinguishing properties and a flash point twice as high as mineral oil. It is also biodegradable within 28 days. These features make it a safer and more sustainable option, especially in sensitive areas. The tested unit also uses Hitachi Energy’s rupture-resistant TXpand™ technology for added safety.
Hitachi Energy India Ltd saw significant order growth in FY25. Order inflows rose 228.3 percent to Rs.18,173.8 crore, compared to Rs.5,536.3 crore in FY24. As of March 31, 2025, its order backlog stood at Rs.19,245.9 crore—its highest ever—providing visibility for future revenue.
In Q4 FY25, new orders reached Rs.2,190.8 crore, a 55.7 percent year-on-year rise. Key sectors included transmission and renewables, followed by industry and rail and metro. Noteworthy orders included a statcom for a leading transmission utility and India’s first made-in-India Variable Shunt Reactor. Exports spanned South Asia, Europe, and Africa.
To scale its India operations, Hitachi Energy India raised Rs.2,520.82 crore via a Qualified Institutional Placement (QIP). The funds will support capacity expansion and other growth initiatives.
