Spanish renewable energy company Grenergy has renewed its agreement with BYD to supply large-scale storage systems for the Oasis de Atacama solar-battery hybrid project in Chile, bringing the total storage capacity to 3 GWh—BYD’s largest agreement to date. The extended deal includes BYD’s MC Cube storage systems for Grenergy’s 200 MW Victor Jara project, with 537 containers set to arrive at the site in the second quarter of 2025.

This storage capacity is equivalent to over 9,000 electric buses and a range of more than 1.6 million kilometres. BYD and Grenergy’s partnership aligns with their shared commitment to sustainability, with the first phase of the project expected to be operational by the end of 2024. The majority of the project will be online by 2025, supported by $345 million in green loans secured in July 2024.

The Oasis de Atacama project, located in northern Chile, is recognized as the world’s largest storage project, with 75% of its energy output secured through long-term power purchase agreements.
