Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) has re-invited bids for the renovation, modernisation, and upgradation (RMU) of Unit 1 and Unit 3 (20 MW each) of the Maithon Hydel Power Station on a turnkey basis. The tender was issued on May 13, 2025, with the last date for submission set as June 16, 2025. The earlier bid was floated in October 2023.

The scope covers design, engineering, manufacturing, testing, transport, erection, commissioning, and performance testing. It also includes structural assessment and renovation of civil works, along with supply of spares and retrofitting.  

The Maithon station, commissioned in 1958, is located on the Barakar River, on the Jharkhand–West Bengal border. It comprises three units with a total capacity of 63.2 MW (2×20 MW + 1×23.2 MW). DVC is carrying out the RMU for life extension (LE) of the plant at an estimated cost of Rs 1.09 billion.
