CS Energy’s 100 MW Chinchilla Battery now operational in Queensland

On 9 August, CS Energy announced that its 100MW/200MWh Chinchilla Battery is fully operational and ready to support Queensland’s power grid. The battery underwent extensive testing to ensure safety and reliability under various operating conditions.

Developed in collaboration with Tesla and construction contractor Downer, the Chinchilla Battery is the first project to become operational from CS Energy’s Kogan Creek Clean Energy Hub. Tesla supplied 80 Megapack 2 systems for the project, while Downer invested over A$3 million in local suppliers and subcontractors during construction.

The Chinchilla Battery, Queensland’s first publicly owned large-scale battery storage project, can power 33,000 homes for two hours during peak demand. This project contributes to Queensland’s goal of achieving 80% renewable energy in its energy mix by 2035.
