The National Committee on Transmission (NCT) has approved three Interstate Transmission System (ISTS) schemes to support upcoming green hydrogen and ammonia manufacturing units in Gujarat (Kandla and Mundra) and Tamil Nadu (Tuticorin). These schemes, with an estimated total outlay of Rs 82 billion, are now open for bids, with technical bids expected to open by December 2024.

Gujarat Schemes:

  1. Kandla Scheme: This project, designed to meet a projected demand of 1,690 MW by FY28 from plants by Greenko Group and Ocior Energy, will develop a 3 GW capacity transmission system. It includes a new 765/400kV substation at Kandla and a 140 km double-circuit line to Halvad. Estimated cost: Rs 27.75 billion. Technical bid opening: December 17, 2024.
  2. Mundra Scheme: This scheme, delivering 3 GW to Mundra from the Navinal substation (augmenting it by 2×1,500 MVA), supports green hydrogen/ammonia units, bringing the total supply in the area to 4.5 GW. Estimated cost: Rs 28.17 billion. Technical bid opening: December 18, 2024.

Tamil Nadu Scheme:

  1. Tuticorin Scheme: With a capacity of 4.5 GW, this scheme will cater to green hydrogen/ammonia projects by AM Green Ammonia Pvt Ltd and Green Infra Renewable Energy Farms Pvt Ltd. By 2030, the cumulative demand in Tuticorin is projected to reach 7.015 GW. Estimated cost: Rs 26.17 billion. Technical bid opening: December 20, 2024.
