Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) has secured three major orders from Adani Power Ltd and its subsidiary Mahan Energen Ltd to supply main plant equipment, including boilers, turbines, and generators, and oversee the erection and commissioning of three upcoming supercritical coal-based power projects. The total value of these orders exceeds Rs 110 billion, excluding GST.
The projects awarded to BHEL are:
- Kawai (Phase-II), 2×800-MW, Rajasthan
- Kawai (Phase-III), 2×800-MW, Rajasthan
- Mahan (Phase-III), 2×800-MW, Madhya Pradesh
The contracts were signed on August 25, 2024, and the projects have a scheduled completion timeline of 49 months for Kawai Phase II, 52 months for Kawai Phase III, and 55 months for Mahan Phase III.
Currently, Adani Power’s Kawai coal-fired plant in Baran district, Rajasthan, has two 660-MW supercritical units. Upon completing Phases II and III, the Kawai plant’s total capacity will increase to 4,520 MW. The Mahan plant in Singrauli district, Madhya Pradesh, owned by Mahan Energen Ltd, has an operational capacity of 1,200 MW from two 600-MW units. Phase-II expansion, underway, includes two 800-MW ultra-supercritical units. The new contract with BHEL covers Phase III, adding another 2×800-MW capacity.
