Ambuja Cements Limited, a key player in the Adani Group portfolio, has joined the Alliance for Industry Decarbonization (AFID), becoming the first cement manufacturer globally to participate in this initiative. AFID is a global platform that fosters collaboration among industries to accelerate the transition to Net Zero, in alignment with the Paris Agreement. Ambuja’s inclusion in this alliance enables the company to exchange insights and experiences with other energy-intensive sectors.

Ambuja Cements, which aims to achieve Net Zero by 2050 with targets validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), has announced plans to invest INR 100 billion in renewable energy projects. This includes 1 GW of renewable energy capacity and 376 MW from a Waste Heat Recovery System (WHRS), with a goal to power 60% of its expanded capacity through green energy by FY2028.

In FY2024, Ambuja Cements utilized over 8.6 million tonnes of waste-derived resources, became 11x water-positive, and 8x plastic-negative. The company is among the world’s lowest emission intensity cement producers and continues to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions through strategic initiatives.

AFID, coordinated by the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), facilitates industry-level dialogue and collaboration to help companies develop effective decarbonization strategies in line with national commitments.
