Amara Raja partners with Piaggio India to develop Lithium-Ion cells for EVs

Amara Raja has signed an MoU with Piaggio India to develop Lithium-Ion (Li-ion) cells and chargers for Piaggio’s electric vehicles. The collaboration focuses on supplying Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) Li-ion cells and chargers for Piaggio’s electric three-wheelers and creating battery packs.

The company has also begun work on its customer qualification plant (CQP) for cell manufacturing and a battery pack plant at Divitipally, Mahabubnagar district. The first phase of the battery pack plant, with a 1.5 GWh capacity, has been inaugurated. The CQP, set to be operational by Q1 of the next financial year, will produce various cell types for customer testing and validation.

This project follows Amara Raja’s recent collaboration with Gotion Inobat (GIB) and an MoU with Ather Energy to advance India’s Electric Vehicle technology.
