Adani Group joins Utilities for Net Zero Alliance
Adani Group companies Adani Green Energy Limited (AGEL) and Adani Energy Solutions Limited (AESL) have become the first Indian firms in the renewable energy and transmission & distribution (T&D) sectors, respectively, to join the Utilities for Net Zero Alliance (UNEZA). The alliance, under the guidance of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) and the UN Climate Change High-Level Champions, aims to promote renewable energy grids and clean energy solutions globally.
Both AGEL and AESL aim to achieve Net Zero by 2050. AGEL plans to expand its renewable energy portfolio from 11.2 GW to 50 GW by 2030, including the development of the world’s largest renewable energy plant at Khavda in Kutch, Gujarat. AESL also targets increasing the share of renewables in its Mumbai distribution arm to 70% by 2030, with plans to reduce direct emissions by 72.7% by the same year.
The Utilities for Net Zero Alliance, established at COP28, unites global utilities to advance electrification efforts and promote clean energy, contributing to global climate goals.
