ACWA Power starts construction on 200 MW wind and 100 MW battery storage project in Uzbekistan

ACWA Power has commenced construction on a 200 MW wind power plant and a 100 MW battery energy storage system (BESS) in the Republic of Karakalpakstan, Uzbekistan. The project, valued at $260 million, is a partnership with JSC National Electric Grid of Uzbekistan (NEGU).

The Beruniy Wind Power Plant is expected to generate 800 million kWh of clean energy annually, enough to power 292,000 households. The initiative will save 212 million cubic meters of natural gas and reduce CO₂ emissions by 336,000 tonnes each year.

ACWA Power is also planning to build a 45 km double-circuit 220 kV power transmission line to the Beruniy substation. The project is set to be commercially operational by the fourth quarter of 2026.

Uzbekistan is ACWA Power’s second-largest market, with 15 ongoing projects and a cumulative investment of $15 billion. In July 2024, ACWA Power sold a 35% stake in its two Asian subsidiaries to China Southern Power Grid International (HK).
