Acciona links first MacIntyre wind farm turbines to Australian grid

Spanish renewable energy company Acciona Energía has connected the first 27 turbines of the MacIntyre wind farm in Queensland, Australia, to the national grid, contributing 154MW of power. The farm, set for full completion by October 2025, will feature 162 Delta4000 turbines with a total capacity of 923 MW.

The energy will be distributed via power purchase agreements with Queensland’s Stanwell and CleanCo. Ark Energy, holding a 30% stake, will use its share to decarbonize the operations of Sun Metals Corporation, aiming to become the world’s first green zinc producer.

The MacIntyre wind farm is part of the larger 2 GW MacIntyre wind precinct, which includes the 1 GW Herries Range wind farm under development. During construction, the workforce has peaked at over 1,000 employees.

In August 2024, Acciona Energía secured a 12-year contract for difference for its 189MW Promina solar energy project in Croatia. The plant, due for completion in 2027, will generate 320 GWh annually, enough to power 69,000 homes and reduce 140,000 tons of CO₂ emissions per year.
