Oklo finalizes agreement with DOE for nuclear reactor site inspections in Idaho
Nuclear power company Oklo has secured a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), allowing it to conduct site inspections for its planned advanced nuclear reactor in Idaho. This agreement enables Oklo to proceed with geotechnical assessments, environmental surveys, and infrastructure planning, crucial steps toward advancing the project to the construction phase.
Oklo is the only advanced fission company with a DOE site use permit and has made significant regulatory progress, including securing a fuel supply. By conducting early site preparation tasks, the company aims to ensure a smooth transition to construction and keep the project on schedule.
Oklo co-founder and CEO Jacob DeWitte highlighted the importance of the DOE partnership, which began with the site use permit and fuel award in 2019. He stated that the MOA reflects Oklo’s commitment to timely deployment and managing project costs.
In August 2024, Oklo signed a preferred supplier agreement with Siemens Energy to provide power conversion systems for Oklo’s Aurora powerhouse, further supporting the company’s efforts to scale advanced fission technology efficiently.
