The government of Piaui has authorized the operation of a 300MW wind farm owned by renewable energy company Ventos de São Zacarias (VSZ), set to begin operations in the next 30–90 days. The project is expected to generate 3,000 jobs in Piaui and the operating licence, valid until 2028, may be renewed.

Nordex is supplying AW-125/3000 turbines, while Elecnor Brasil constructed the farm. VSZ is installing 80 turbines in Simões, aiming for a total capacity of 456MW, which will power 1.2 million homes, making it one of the largest wind farm clusters in Latin America.

Piaui’s government is focused on maintaining its status as one of Brazil’s largest renewable energy producers. Additionally, it has signed an agreement with solar company Solatio for a 4 GW solar complex, set to become the largest in Brazil and aid in ammonia and green hydrogen production starting in 2025.
