Matrix Energia issues Brazil’s first green bond for battery energy storage

Brazilian electricity company Matrix Energia has completed the country’s first green debenture issuance worth 100 million Brazilian reais ($17.9 million) to fund the construction of 224 MWh of battery energy storage capacity by 2025. This marks the first green issuance for a battery energy storage system (BESS) in Brazil and the second green issuance for a renewable project by Matrix Energia.

Led by Caixa Econômica Federal, the six-year issuance was raised by Matrix Energia’s subsidiary, Get Comercializadora.  

The investment complies with the Green Issuance Principles of the International Capital Markets Association and has been verified by Attest ESG, aligning with Brazil’s Guide for Sustainable Bond Offerings set by ANBIMA. Matrix Energia plans to expand Brazil’s BESS capacity, which stood at 250 MWh in 2023, primarily deployed in rural areas.

REC to finance Rs 3 trillion for infrastructure projects in Rajasthan

Turkey aims to quadruple wind and solar capacity by 2035
