Tata Power Renewable commissions 190.5 MW FDRE project in Rajasthan
Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL), a subsidiary of The Tata Power Company Limited, has commissioned a 190.5 MW Solar Firm and Dispatchable Renewable Energy (FDRE) project at Kalasar in Bikaner, Rajasthan. The project is part of the larger 460 MW FDRE capacity contracted under the SJVN FDRE Tranche-1 initiative.
Energy storage
The project integrates a 115 MWh advanced Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) to address the intermittency of renewable generation and enable the delivery of reliable, dispatchable renewable power during peak demand hours.
FDRE projects combine renewable generation with energy storage to provide firm power that can be dispatched on demand. This can reduce the need for costly short-term thermal power purchases and support grid stability.
Power supply
The renewable power generated by the 190.5 MW project will be supplied to Haryana Power Purchase Centre (HPPC), Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL), and Noida Power Company Limited (NPCL). The project also incorporates Harmonic Filter Banks and Static Var Generator systems to support grid stability.
TPREL said the project was completed despite compressed timelines and global supply chain disruptions affecting transmission materials and mounting structures. The switchyard was completed in three months, while the Harmonic Filter Bank was completed in one month.
Renewable capacity
Following the commissioning, TPREL’s total renewable utility capacity has reached 12.4 GW. This includes approximately 6.9 GW of operational capacity, comprising 5.6 GW of solar and 1.3 GW of wind capacity. A further approximately 5.5 GW is under implementation and is expected to be commissioned in phases over the next 24 months.
The commissioning adds to Tata Power’s contribution towards India’s 500 GW non-fossil fuel capacity target and its broader objective of achieving Net Zero by 2045.
