Jupiter International begins work on solar ingot-wafer plant in Nagpur
Jupiter International has started work on a Rs 3,000 crore solar ingot and wafer manufacturing facility in Nagpur, Maharashtra, with an annual production capacity of 3 GW.
The facility will manufacture solar ingots and wafers and is scheduled to become operational in phases over the next 20 months. The investment will expand Jupiter International’s manufacturing presence beyond its existing operations in Himachal Pradesh and Odisha.
Wafer capacity
The Nagpur project will add domestic manufacturing capacity for silicon wafers, a key input in solar cell production. Indian solar manufacturers currently depend heavily on wafer imports from China, making domestic ingot and wafer production an important part of efforts to build an integrated solar manufacturing supply chain in India.
Jupiter International currently operates five solar manufacturing units across Himachal Pradesh and Odisha, with a combined capacity of 4.5 GW.
The new 3 GW ingot-wafer facility is expected to strengthen the company’s upstream manufacturing capabilities and reduce dependence on imported inputs.
Expansion plans
Alongside the Nagpur investment, Jupiter International is targeting a turnover of Rs 3,200 crore in the current fiscal year.
The company also plans to launch an Initial Public Offering (IPO) in early 2027.
The Nagpur project comes as Indian solar manufacturers expand domestic capacity across different stages of the supply chain. Local production of ingots and wafers could reduce exposure to imports while supporting greater domestic integration in solar manufacturing.
