Rosatom completes reactor vessel installation at Tianwan NPP Unit 8 in China
Russian state nuclear company Rosatom has completed the installation of the reactor vessel at Tianwan Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) Unit 8 in China, marking a significant milestone in the project’s development. The reactor, a VVER-1200 model weighing 331.7 tons, was manufactured by Russian specialists and positioned in its designated spot after a detailed inspection and preparatory process.
Rosatom’s engineering division provided technical support, with supervision from OKB Gidropress, a subsidiary of Rosatom, ensuring the precision required for the installation. ASE JSC, part of Rosatom, will continue overseeing the installation and adjustment of all major equipment at Unit 8.
In addition to the Tianwan project, Rosatom is advancing its international nuclear projects, including Turkey’s Akkuyu NPP, where the commissioning phase began in April 2024. Akkuyu, Turkey’s first nuclear power plant, is part of a broader plan to expand the country’s nuclear energy capacity with future plants in Sinop and Thrace.
