GRIL Brings Second Madhya Pradesh Transmission Project Online for 1,000 MW RE Evacuation

G R Infraprojects Ltd (GRIL) has commissioned Pachora Power Transmission Limited (PPTL), its second operational transmission project in Madhya Pradesh. The project, titled “Transmission system for Evacuation of Power from RE Projects in Rajgarh (1000 MW) SEZ in Madhya Pradesh-Phase II”, has been developed to facilitate the evacuation of 1,000 MW of renewable energy from the Rajgarh Special Economic Zone (SEZ).

The commissioning adds to the interstate transmission infrastructure supporting renewable energy integration in Madhya Pradesh and will operate under a fixed revenue framework over a 35-year period.

Project details

PPTL was established as a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) for the development, operation and maintenance of the transmission system. GRIL acquired the SPV from REC Power Development & Consultancy Ltd (RECPDCL) in February 2024 after emerging as the successful bidder under the tariff-based competitive bidding process.

The project was awarded at an annual transmission charge of Rs 419.74 million, equivalent to an annual tariff of Rs 41.97 crore.

The transmission system includes augmentation of the existing Pachora Pooling Station by 1,500 MVA and the construction of a new 400 kV double-circuit transmission line connecting the pooling station to the Ujjain substation of Madhya Pradesh Power Transmission Company Limited (MPPTCL).

Transmission expansion

The commissioning of PPTL marks GRIL’s second transmission project in Madhya Pradesh and expands its presence in the power transmission sector. The project has been designed to strengthen the regional grid by enabling the evacuation of renewable power generated in the Rajgarh SEZ.

The transmission infrastructure forms part of the broader effort to integrate utility-scale renewable energy projects into the interstate transmission network as renewable capacity additions continue across central India.

According to GRIL, the project was commissioned with support from the Ministry of Power (MoP), Central Transmission Utility of India Limited (CTUIL), Central Electricity Authority (CEA), consultants, contractors, vendors and other stakeholders involved in its execution.
