Lower Sileru hydro project completes Unit-5 stator lowering
The Lower Sileru Hydro Electric Project in Andhra Pradesh has achieved another construction milestone with the successful lowering of the Unit-5 stator. The activity was carried out by PES Engineers Pvt. Ltd. and Shirdi Sai Electricals Ltd., with the 220 MT stator safely positioned as part of the ongoing expansion of the hydroelectric station.
The successful stator lowering marks a key stage in the installation of electro-mechanical equipment for Unit-5. PES Engineers Pvt. Ltd. credited the milestone to the coordinated efforts of Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), Shirdi Sai Electricals Ltd., and its project team involved in the execution.
Project expansion
The Lower Sileru Hydro Electric Project is a run-of-river and conventional storage hydroelectric power plant operated by Andhra Pradesh Power Generation Corporation (APGENCO). The project is located in the forest region of Pollur Camp, Chintur, in the Alluri Sitharama Raju district of Andhra Pradesh and utilises the water gradient of the Sileru River.
Originally commissioned with an installed capacity of 460 MW, the plant is being expanded through the addition of two 115 MW generating units. Once completed, the total installed capacity will increase to 690 MW.
The Sileru complex has an annual generation capacity of around 1,050 million units and plays an important role in Andhra Pradesh’s peak load management.
