GEON commissions 2.88 GWh BESS project at Khavda
GEON (Green Energy ON), the future technologies division of Kabra Extrusiontechnik Ltd, has integrated and commissioned a 2.88 GWh battery energy storage system (BESS) at Khavda. The company said the project was completed within five months and is now fully operational.
The installation is among the largest utility-scale BESS deployments in India and forms part of the renewable energy infrastructure being developed at Khavda, which is emerging as a major clean energy hub.
Project scope
GEON’s scope of work included system integration, execution, testing and commissioning of the project. The company integrated power conditioning systems (PCS), transformers and advanced energy management systems (EMS) as part of the deployment.
The project was completed in five months from execution to commissioning.
Energy storage focus
Commenting on the development, Anand Kabra, Chairman and Managing Director of GEON – Green Energy ON, said battery storage is becoming a key component of grid-scale clean energy management and delivery.
Saurabh Jain, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) – Energy Storage, GEON, said the company delivered the project as the nodal agency and completed the entire scope within five months. He attributed the execution timeline to project planning, coordination and on-site implementation.
Manufacturing plans
GEON said its long-term strategy includes domestic manufacturing of battery energy storage systems. The company is planning a gigafactory to support future demand and strengthen India’s energy storage ecosystem.
