Tata Power wins Karnataka transmission project for 2 GW solar park

The Tata Power Company Limited has received a Letter of Intent (LOI) from REC Power Development and Consultancy Limited (RECPDCL) for the acquisition and development of a transmission project in Karnataka under the Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) route.

The project will be implemented through a special purpose vehicle (SPV), Ryapte Power Transmission Limited, on a Build-Own-Operate-Transfer (BOOT) basis.

Project scope

The project is part of the transmission infrastructure planned for the evacuation of power from the proposed 2,000 MW solar park at Ryapte village in Tumkur district. The scope includes the construction of around 250 km of transmission lines and two new substations.

The transmission network will comprise a 400 kV double-circuit line from Ryapte to Doddathaggalli, a 400 kV double-circuit line from Kolar to Doddathaggalli, and 220 kV double-circuit lines from Doddathaggalli to Ekarajapura, Hosakote and Sarjapura. The project also includes 220 kV underground cable links to Ekarajapura, Hosakote and Sarjapura.

Two substations will be developed under the scheme. These include a 400/220 kV Air Insulated Substation (AIS) at Ryapte in Tumkur district with a capacity of 5×500 MVA and a 400/220 kV Gas Insulated Substation (GIS) at Doddathaggalli near Hosakote with a capacity of 3×500 MVA.

Competitive bidding

Tata Power emerged as the successful bidder for the project after competing against Adani Energy Solutions Limited and Resonia Limited.

The three companies had been shortlisted as technically qualified bidders under the Request for Proposal (RFP) for the “Evacuation Scheme for 2000MW Solar Park at Ryapte Village, Tumkur District”.

Commercial terms

The project has annual transmission charges of up to Rs 521.07 crore.

The scheduled commercial operation date (SCOD) is 30 months from the effective date, which will be the date of transfer of the SPV. Following commissioning, the project will be operated under a 35-year transmission service concession period.
