Vikran Engineering commissions 5 MW solar plant, forms new RE arm

Vikran Engineering Limited (VEL) has commissioned a 5 MW solar power plant at Ambijalgaon in Ahilyanagar district, Maharashtra.

The project has been developed under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthaan Mahabhiyan (PM-KUSUM) scheme to supply reliable daytime electricity for agricultural irrigation. It is intended to reduce dependence on inconsistent grid supply and diesel-based pumping. The plant is expected to generate around 10,000 MWh annually and avoid about 8,200 tonnes of CO2 emissions each year.

The commissioning forms part of a larger 600 MW solar contract secured by the company in December 2025. With two solar plants now operational, VEL has an additional 145 MW under construction. Commenting on the development, Rakesh Markhedkar, Chairman and Managing Director (CMD), stated that the project marks a step forward in the company’s renewable energy expansion, with a focus on the timely execution of its solar pipeline.

Separately, the company has incorporated Vikran Renewable Private Limited (VRPL) as a wholly-owned subsidiary to manage its clean energy portfolio. Incorporated on May 4, 2026, VRPL will undertake the development, implementation, and operation of integrated renewable energy projects, including solar and related infrastructure. It will also function as a holding entity for future investments, subsidiaries, and joint ventures. The company has an authorised capital of Rs 15,00,000 and a paid-up capital of Rs 1,00,000, and has not yet commenced operations.

The developments indicate VEL’s ongoing shift from its engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) base in transmission and distribution towards renewable energy infrastructure.
