Juniper Green begins commissioning India’s first FDRE project

Author: PPD Team Date: April 21, 2026

Juniper Green Energy Limited has entered the commissioning phase of what it describes as India’s first Firm and Dispatchable Renewable Energy (FDRE) project, developed under the Government of India’s FDRE framework.

The project integrates 259 MWp of solar, 280 MW of wind, and a 200 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) across Rajasthan and Gujarat. The combined system is designed to deliver scheduled renewable power aligned with grid demand, addressing variability associated with standalone solar and wind generation.

The Ministry of Power introduced FDRE guidelines in June 2023 to enable such hybrid configurations. The framework requires integration of solar, wind, and storage to ensure dispatchable renewable supply that can meet distribution company requirements on a scheduled basis.

On project progress, the 259 MWp solar component achieved commercial operations in March 2026, followed by commissioning of the 200 MWh BESS in April 2026. The wind component remains under commissioning as part of the overall project.

The project was awarded through a tender issued by SJVN Limited under its FDRE scheme. Juniper Green Energy holds a 200 MW Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with SJVN, which has a back-to-back arrangement with Haryana Power Purchase Centre for supply of power to the state.

Since the introduction of FDRE guidelines, over 10 tenders aggregating more than 14 GW have been issued by agencies including NHPC Limited, Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI), and NTPC Limited. Around 10 GW of capacity is currently under construction, indicating increasing uptake of dispatchable renewable projects.

Juniper Green Energy, based in Delhi NCR, is a utility-scale developer focused on solar, wind, and hybrid assets. The company reported an operational capacity of about 1.66 GWp as of January 2026 and operates under the AT Capital Group. Earlier in 2026, it commissioned a 100 MWh merchant BESS project in Bikaner, Rajasthan.
