NTPC group capacity rises to 89,378 MW with Tehri PSP Unit 4 COD

NTPC Limited has announced that its subsidiary, THDC India Limited, has declared the commercial operation date (COD) of the fourth 250 MW unit of the Tehri Pumped Storage Plant (PSP), effective 00:00 hours on April 12, 2026, taking the NTPC group’s total installed capacity to 89,378 MW.
In a regulatory filing dated April 11, 2026, NTPC informed that the fourth unit of the Tehri PSP (4×250 MW) has been commissioned after obtaining all required approvals. With this addition, THDC’s total installed and commercial capacity has reached 3,907 MW.
Following the commissioning, NTPC stated that its total installed capacity stands at 89,378 MW, while commercial capacity is 88,298 MW. The Tehri PSP, located in Uttarakhand, adds to India’s pumped storage hydropower capacity, which supports grid stability and peak demand management.
