Power Grid wins Tumkur-II transmission project for 2.7 GW RE integration

Power Grid Corporation of India Limited has been declared the successful bidder under tariff-based competitive bidding for the “Transmission System Strengthening at Tumkur-II for Integration of Additional RE Potential (2.7 GW)” project in Karnataka. The company received the Letter of Intent dated March 30, 2026, on April 1.

The project was tendered by PFC Consulting Limited (PFCCL) on November 19, 2025, and the technical bids were opened on March 11, 2026. Five bidders qualified for the Initial Offer stage: Dilip Buildcon Limited, Resonia Limited, Power Grid Corporation of India Limited, Adani Energy Solutions Limited, and G R Infraprojects Limited.

The scope involves augmentation of transformation capacity at the Tumkur-II pooling station by installing two sets of 400/220 kV interconnecting transformers (ICTs), comprising three units of 500 MVA each as the fifth to seventh transformers and another three as the eighth to tenth transformers. The project also includes construction of a Tumkur-II to Madhugiri 400 kV quad double-circuit transmission line, installation of a ±300 MVAr static synchronous compensator at the pooling station, switching systems for two 125 MVAr bus reactors, and six additional 220 kV line bays for evacuation from renewable energy developers.
