Power Grid appoints Burra Vamsi Rama Mohan as CMD

Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (Power Grid) has appointed Burra Vamsi Rama Mohan as Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) with effect from April 1, 2026, following a Ministry of Power order dated March 18, 2026. His tenure will continue until July 31, 2030, or until further orders, whichever is earlier. He succeeds Dr. Ravindra Kumar Tyagi, who retired on March 31, 2026.
Vamsi has over 33 years of experience in power transmission and telecom. He was part of the founding team of Power Grid’s Regulatory Cell and played a role in the company’s transition to tariff-based competitive bidding. He also served as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of PowerGrid Teleservices Limited, where he led expansion of the telecom business and initiated the company’s first data centre project. As Director (Projects), he oversaw a period in which Power Grid recorded its highest capitalisation and capital expenditure. He holds an engineering degree, a Post Graduate Diploma in Planning and Project Management, and a Post Graduate Diploma in Management from MDI Gurugram, and has attended programmes at Harvard Manage Mentor and the Indian School of Business, Hyderabad.
Separately, Power Grid has promoted Gyaneshwar Prasad Payasi and Pradeep Kumar from Chief General Manager to Executive Director with effect from April 1, 2026. Payasi holds a Master of Engineering (ME) from IIT Roorkee and a Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) from MDI Gurgaon, and has over three decades of experience across project execution, asset management, telecom, information technology, and tariff-based competitive bidding. He has worked on asset monetisation and transmission projects for renewable energy evacuation in Rajasthan and for independent power producers in Chhattisgarh, and will head the CMD Coordination Cell.
Pradeep Kumar, an electrical engineering graduate from Dayalbagh Educational Institute, Agra, joined Power Grid as an Executive Trainee in 1994. He has nearly three decades of experience in asset management, substation maintenance, and consultancy. He is currently leading the Comprehensive Scheme for Strengthening of Transmission and Distribution Systems in Arunachal Pradesh and will continue in this role as Executive Director with the designation CTDS-AP.
