Grid stability concerns intensify at major ISTS renewable hubs
The National Committee on Transmission reviewed grid stability challenges at its 38th meeting, with GRID-India highlighting persistent issues at major ISTS-connected renewable hubs. Low short circuit ratio conditions in Rajasthan and the Western Region are causing daily oscillations. Four types of oscillations were identified, including low-frequency voltage oscillations (0.1–0.2 Hz), high-frequency oscillations (3.5–7 Hz), sub-synchronous oscillations (8–20 Hz), and large voltage dips of 80–90 kV. Case studies from January and February 2026 showed repeated system disturbances, including line trippings and inter-area oscillations. GRID-India has recommended measures such as synchronous condensers, grid-forming inverters, and improved controller tuning.

CPCB issues guidelines for solar waste storage and handling
The Central Pollution Control Board has issued guidelines for storage and handling of waste solar photovoltaic modules under the E-Waste (Management) Rules, 2022. Released in March 2026, the guidelines establish a technical framework for managing end-of-life solar equipment. They apply to producers, manufacturers, and recyclers, and prohibit disposal in open areas or landfills. Waste is required to be transferred only to CPCB-registered recyclers, with defined protocols for storage, transport, and safety. The guidelines also specify requirements for worker protection, incident reporting, and facility standards.
