ACME Solar Holdings Limited has commissioned a 142.67 MW / 481.49 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in Rajasthan through its subsidiaries. The project represents Phase 1 of a planned total BESS capacity of 585 MW / 2,011 MWh to be developed under the same special purpose vehicles (SPVs).
The BESS installations are connected to the existing Inter-State Transmission System (ISTS). In the initial phase, the systems will operate on a merchant basis, generating revenue by capturing price differences between peak and off-peak power demand periods.
At a later stage, the storage systems will be integrated with ACME Solar’s Firm and Dispatchable Renewable Energy (FDRE) projects. These integrated projects are expected to operate under 25-year power purchase agreements (PPAs).
The storage units are designed to charge electricity during periods of lower demand and release it during peak demand hours. This operational approach supports grid balancing and enhances system stability.
ACME Solar’s broader development pipeline includes the installation of approximately 17 GWh of BESS capacity across multiple phases and states.
The company currently reports an overall portfolio of 8,071 MW across solar, wind, hybrid and storage projects. Of this, 2,966 MW represents operational contracted capacity, while 5,105 MW is under construction. The under-construction portfolio includes plans for around 16.5 GWh of BESS installations.
