L&T, NVIDIA plan gigawatt-scale AI infrastructure venture in India

Author: PPD Team Date: February 19, 2026

Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has proposed a venture with NVIDIA to build gigawatt-scale artificial intelligence infrastructure in India. The collaboration was announced at the India AI Summit on February 18, 2026, to position India as a global centre for sovereign AI development and large-scale deployment.

The partnership supports the Government of India’s India AI Mission and focuses on establishing sovereign, scalable AI factory infrastructure. It combines L&T’s engineering, infrastructure, and project execution capabilities with NVIDIA’s integrated AI computing platforms. The planned infrastructure will incorporate NVIDIA GPUs, CPUs, networking technologies, accelerated storage, and the NVIDIA AI Enterprise software stack to enable faster and secure AI adoption across priority sectors and support enterprise transition from pilot projects to production deployment.

The venture targets the development of gigawatt-scale AI-ready data centre capacity. Initial plans include expanding GPU cluster capacity at L&T’s Chennai data centre to 30 megawatts within a broader 300-acre campus designed for future gigawatt-scale growth. A separate 40-megawatt data centre under construction in Mumbai is expected to support high-density, next-generation AI workloads. The infrastructure is designed as a sovereign-by-design platform that enables the creation, training, and deployment of critical data, models, and AI workloads within India while remaining interoperable with global ecosystems. Capacity will be offered to domestic enterprises, global hyperscalers, cloud providers, and international off-takers.

The AI factory framework is intended to provide advanced AI capabilities across manufacturing, infrastructure, energy, financial services, healthcare, and public services. It will also enable L&T group companies to deploy live AI agents through a sovereign cloud environment. Planned use cases include L&T Technology Services’ Lights-Out Factory model using NVIDIA Omniverse libraries for industrial applications, the Blueverse platform, agentic AI deployments at L&T Financial Services, and internally developed AI agents for L&T’s operational processes.

  1. N. Subrahmanyan, Chairman and Managing Director of L&T, stated that Indian enterprises are ready to scale AI from pilots to production. He emphasised that the investment establishes secure, scalable, and sovereign infrastructure necessary to power key economic sectors, combining NVIDIA’s platforms with L&T’s execution capabilities.

Jensen Huang, Founder and CEO of NVIDIA, described AI as driving the largest infrastructure buildout in human history. He noted that Prime Minister Modi’s vision to democratize AI access across the Global South and position India as a digital infrastructure hub aligns with the partnership. Huang added that L&T’s eight-decade legacy in engineering and nation-building provides a strong foundation for world-class AI infrastructure.

The venture is positioned as a national-scale platform for AI factories that are sovereign by design, built for accelerated computing, and capable of meeting domestic and international AI demand. It is intended to support the India AI Mission objective of making AI in India and enabling AI adoption across the country.
