Gujarat-based Powertrac Group has invested Rs 600 crore to set up a 1,000 MWh per annum containerised Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) manufacturing facility in India. The company joins firms such as Hoymiles and Pace Digitek that have recently entered the containerised BESS segment.
Divyarajsinh Zala, Managing Director (MD) of Powertrac Group, announced the development in a social media post. He stated that the company is shifting its focus towards establishing a BESS facility, with emphasis on Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP)-based battery pack assembly and in-house Battery Management System (BMS) development and integration.
The company also plans to introduce 1–5 MWh modular containerised grid-scale BESS solutions and offer solar-plus-BESS hybrid systems. The expansion aligns with its stated target of achieving 1 GW of operational Independent Power Producer (IPP) projects by 2030.
Last month, Vikram Solar approved an investment of Rs 4,371 crore to enter the BESS market, marking a diversification beyond solar module manufacturing as demand for grid-scale storage increases.
