Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL), a subsidiary of The Tata Power Company Limited, said it has installed 1 GWp of new rooftop solar capacity in the first nine months of FY 2026. The company said this reinforces its position in India’s rooftop solar market.
During the nine-month period, rooftop additions of 1 GWp reflected year-on-year growth of 127% compared to 444.78 megawatt peak (MWp) in the same period of FY 2025. Customer adoption rose to about 1.7 lakh new consumers across residential, commercial and industrial segments, a 345% increase over the previous year. Cumulatively, rooftop solar installations now cover more than 3 lakh customers, and total capacity has crossed 4 GWp.
The third quarter of FY 2026 recorded strong growth. Between October and December 2025, TPREL completed 58,476 installations contributing 372 MWp of new rooftop capacity. This was 242% higher than the 17,092 installations reported in Q3 FY 2025.
In terms of geographical additions during the nine-month period, Uttar Pradesh recorded 30,857 installations with 128.13 MWp. Maharashtra reported 21,044 installations with 126.33 MWp. Gujarat recorded 18,907 installations and 143.02 MWp, while Telangana recorded 14,622 installations and 62.08 MWp. On a cumulative basis, Maharashtra leads with 41,827 installations and 855.21 MWp, followed by Gujarat with 31,624 installations and 525.81 MWp. Tamil Nadu has 8,633 installations and 318.35 MWp, while Chhattisgarh has 8,068 installations and 285.62 MWp.
The company said it has been ranked India’s top rooftop solar player for the past decade by BTI (CRISIL). Its rooftop business, Tata Power Solaroof, works through a network of more than 650 channel partners. TPREL said its expansion supports the Government of India’s Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Yojana and is backed by public outreach through the “Ghar Ghar Solar” initiative.
Tata Power Solaroof provides integrated rooftop systems with high-efficiency modules carrying a 25-year performance warranty, financing support, insurance and after-sales services. Parent company The Tata Power Company Limited has a total generation capacity of 15.9 gigawatt (GW), of which 7.0 GW or 44% is from clean energy. Tata Power has set a target to achieve net-zero emissions by 2045 and aligns itself with India’s goal of reaching 500 GW of non-fossil capacity by 2030.
