Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Electric Power Development Company have begun formal discussions on the transfer of MHI’s domestic onshore wind power business to J-POWER. Both companies plan to sign a definitive agreement after settling the conditions for the transaction. They aim to complete the transfer by April 1, 2026.

MHI has built large wind turbines for more than forty years. It has supplied more than 4,200 turbines across 11 countries, with most deliveries in North America and Japan. The company continues to provide after-sales services worldwide. MHI expects the proposed transfer to allow its technical expertise to be used across a wider set of activities under a new structure.

J-POWER is expanding its renewable energy portfolio in line with the Blue Mission 2050 strategy announced in 2021. It has been active in wind power since operating one of Japan’s first large commercial wind farms in 2000. It currently holds the second-largest domestic market share in wind generation facilities. The company views the proposed transfer as a way to strengthen its development base by integrating MHI’s accumulated wind technology and operational experience.

The collaboration is expected to support the future expansion of J-POWER’s wind business and related services. MHI believes the move will increase value for customers and create new opportunities for employees. The MHI Group will continue to adjust its business structure under the 2024 Medium Term Business Plan, which focuses on stronger portfolio management.
