The New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) Minister Pralhad Joshi has launched a call for proposals for pilot projects that aim to produce green hydrogen from biomass and waste materials. The government has set aside Rs 1 billion for these projects, in addition to Rs 1 billion already assigned to start-up initiatives under the National Green Hydrogen Mission. The Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council will run the programme and invite participation from industry, start-ups, and research institutions.

At the 3rd International Conference on Green Hydrogen held at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, the Minister said the National Green Hydrogen Mission is supporting India’s move towards clean energy while helping create jobs and draw investment. He said the mission is central to India’s effort to build a global role in green hydrogen.

The Minister also unveiled the official logo of the mission and announced a Rs 100 crore call for proposals for pilot projects that use biomass and waste as feedstock for hydrogen production. The scheme will be implemented through BIRAC and is intended to support new and cost-effective technologies for producing green hydrogen.
