The Australian federal government has announced the results of Tender 4 under its Capacity Investment Scheme, selecting 20 renewable and storage projects with a total capacity of 6.6 gigawatts. The outcome exceeds the tender’s original 6-gigawatt target and marks another step toward Australia’s goal of sourcing 82% of its electricity from renewables by 2030.
Twelve of the awarded projects are hybrid developments that combine battery storage with solar or wind generation, together accounting for more than 3.5 gigawatts of capacity. Many projects include measures to strengthen local participation, such as using Australian steel, creating training programs, and subcontracting work to Indigenous and regional businesses. Three projects have committed to share revenue with First Nations communities, while ten plan to offer community energy rebates or related local benefits.
The successful projects are distributed across several states. In New South Wales, winners include the Bendemeer Energy Hub, Dinawan Wind Farm Stage 1, Liverpool Range Wind Stage 1, Merino Solar Farm, Middlebrook Solar Farm, and Tallawang Solar Hybrid. Victoria’s selected projects are Corop Solar Farm and BESS, Derby Solar Project, Hexham Wind Farm, and Nowingi Solar Power Station. In South Australia, the government awarded Bundey BESS and Solar, Carmody’s Hill Wind Farm, and Willogoleche 2 Wind Farm, with additional projects located in Queensland and Tasmania.
