Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has received an engineering, procurement, and construction contract for a renewable energy project in Bihar. The order involves developing a 116 MW solar power plant paired with a 241 MWh battery energy storage system at Kajra, Lakhisarai.

The contract adds to an ongoing initiative, making the Lakhisarai site the largest co-located renewable energy and storage facility in the country, with a combined battery capacity of 495 MWh. The storage system will use liquid cooling to improve safety and performance, enabling the dispatch of stored solar power during peak demand periods.

L&T has classified the Bihar project as “significant,” estimating its value between ₹1,000 crore and ₹2,500 crore.

The project aligns with India’s broader focus on energy storage integration and supports Bihar’s Jal-Jeevan-Hariyali Abhiyan, a state-led environmental programme.
