Wipro to deploy smart meter data system for Saudi Arabia’s National Grid SA

Author: PPD Team Date: July 30, 2025

Wipro has signed a multi-year agreement with Saudi Electric Company’s transmission arm, National Grid SA, to implement a smart meter data management (MDM) system. The project is expected to modernise the utility’s data infrastructure and improve monitoring and operational efficiency.

Under the agreement, Wipro will handle the design, development, implementation and ongoing support of the MDM platform. The system will provide real-time data on electricity flow, voltage levels and equipment status across the grid. This is intended to support improved stability, reduce outages and lower operational costs.

The solution will also offer advanced forecasting, reporting and usage tracking capabilities, helping National Grid SA strengthen its grid planning and enable proactive maintenance. According to Wipro, the system aligns with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 goals for innovation and digitalisation.

The contract follows the June 2025 launch of Wipro’s Middle East regional headquarters in Riyadh.

Wipro, originally established as Western India Vegetable Products Limited in 1945 in Amalner, Maharashtra, began as a vegetable oil producer. It later expanded into personal care and transitioned into the IT sector in the 1970s and 1980s. Today, it operates as a global provider of IT, consulting, and business process services, with over 230,000 employees and partnerships across 65 countries.
