Patel Engineering wins Rs 240 crore NHPC contract for Teesta-V hydro project

Patel Engineering Ltd. has secured a Rs 239.98 crore contract from NHPC Ltd. for civil and hydro-mechanical works at the Teesta-V Power Station in Sikkim, as reported in a company release dated July 18, 2025.
The contract covers the modification of an existing diversion tunnel into a tunnel spillway under Package 6 of the hydropower station. The project, located in the South District of Sikkim, is expected to be completed within 18 months.
According to the release, Patel Engineering’s scope includes constructing the tunnel spillway, gate operation chamber and shaft, a precast bridge, access roads, dyke, energy dissipation structures, and an environmental flow tunnel. The company will also build supporting infrastructure for the works.
This award follows an earlier announcement made in September 2024, when Patel Engineering was declared the lowest bidder for the same package.
PEL Managing Director Kavita Shirvaikar, in a statement quoted in the press release, said the company’s experience in the North Eastern region would support timely and efficient delivery of the project. She noted that the company is also engaged in NHPC’s Teesta-VI hydroelectric project, located about 30 km from the new site.
Patel Engineering has a long track record in the hydropower, tunnelling, and irrigation sectors. According to the company, it has completed over 85 dams, 40 hydroelectric projects, and more than 300 km of tunnelling for public-sector clients.
